Ihsan Dogramaci Bilkent University (henceforth Bilkent University), founded in 1984, is the first private, non-profit university in Turkey. Currently, there are approximately 12,000 students enrolled at the University; one-third of the student body is on scholarship. Bilkent University has 33 bachelors, 6 associate’s, and 47 graduate programs in a variety of fields. Bilkent University has been named as Turkey’s highest-ranked university in the newly released QS Top Universities Under 50 listing for 2015. The Department of International Relations (BIR) is a leading teaching and research Department in Turkey. It is the biggest in Turkey regarding the number of undergraduate students enrolled in its programme. The Department is committed to teaching and research excellence in all fields. The Head of the Department, Associate Professor Dr. Dimitri Tsarouhas, held a Jean Monnet Chair from 2012 to 2015 and is actively participating in more EU-related activities, including teaching and research.
